HKEX's Bonnie Chan Thinks IPO Activities Decline is Global Phenomenon

HKEX (00388.HK) Group CEO Bonnie Chan said the decline in IPO activities in the past few years is not unique to Hong Kong, and is the same as the challenges encountered by other exchanges.

She added that the fundamentals of Hong Kong's strength as a capital market are still there, but it is also affected by unfavourable factors such as geopolitics, the high interest rate environment and macroeconomic conditions, which she believed are short-term phenomena.

The decision of companies to list in their home countries due to Covid also explained why the top 10 IPOs in the past few years were usually on smaller exchanges.

Based on her observations from her visits to different places, she believed that Hong Kong will become one of the preferred places for companies to raise further capital in the future as they grow up.
