Wire: US Wants Allies to Tighten Supply of Chip-related Techs & Talents Towards CN

Financial Times reported that the United States is urging its allies in Europe and Asia to tighten restrictions on exports of chip-related technology and equipment towards China, amid mounting concerns about the development of advanced Chips by Huawei. It is learnt that the US wants Japan, South Korea and the Netherlands to make more active use of existing export controls, including preventing engineers from these countries from providing services to China's advanced chip factories. It has been learnt that the US also hopes its allies will make it more difficult for China to circumvent the US restrictions, in particular by making it more difficult for third-country companies to supply China with products incorporating Japanese, South Korean or Dutch technology. South Korea's Ministry of Industry, Trade and Energy said it was not aware of any request from the US to tighten export controls. Meanwhile, the European Union's trade commissioner, Valdis Dombrovskis, said the EU was reluctant to restrict European citizens from working in China, as this is a fundamental issue of personal freedom that needs to be handled with great care.
